So here we are in 2012! I spent the first moments of 2012 working... typically I got put on the bar on the busiest night of the year meaning I didn't get to leave early, although I did get to celebrate by 12.30am. It was my first night out in Cairns. It was a good night, the town had organised a free live band although I'm not sure who played and had 2 fireworks displays, which were pretty impressive. I was surprised at the amount of people who gathered in the town centre for the turn of the new year. It kind of reminded me of being back home in Driffield for NYE with half the town venturing out in the cold to gather around the tree and wish both friends and strangers a happy new year. Gosh, it feels like a life time since I was in Driffield for new years... It must have been 2008 the last time.
Anyhow I ended up joining Errol at his work, drank there for a while and then moved onto a few other bars with everyone he works with. The weirdest thing was that on the way to the next bar I bumped into a couple of friends from Park City. Ended up spending the rest of the night with them. I was so stoked to see them, its such a small world... I had no idea they were even in Australia, let alone Cairns.
